The Romanian Football Federation submitted part of the documentation necessary to host the UEFA Europa League final in 2028 or 2029 on the National Arena in Bucharest, the FRF website informs on Monday.

The project is backed by the Bucharest City Hall and the Romanian Government, both of which have taken an active role in the bid process.

The Romanian Government expressed its full support for the initiative, including by declaring the event one of a public interest and of a national relevance, which confirms the strategic significance of organising a European final of this scale for Romanian football and for the country's image in the world in general.

In turn, the Bucharest City Hall emphasised the major benefits for Bucharest if it becomes host of the UEFA Europa League final and reaffirmed its commitment to support the modernisation of the infrastructure. The necessary upgrades fully meet the local administration's plans to modernise the National Arena, thus contributing to the sustainable development of the sports facilities in the city.

Hosting the Europa League final is seen by the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) as a trigger for building a benchmark organisational model for Romanian football clubs, within the context of Central and Eastern Europe, based on an integrated vision: football - community - business - sustainability.

The Europa League final is a sporting event of major importance at European level, and this bid underlines the FRF's determination to contribute actively to the promotion of top-level football, both in Romania and on the international stage.

UEFA will analyse the submitted bids and announce the host cities for 2028 and 2029 in June.

For the next two years, the host cities of the UEFA Europa League final have already been decided: Istanbul will host the 2026 final, while Frankfurt will host the 2027 final.

The National Arena in Bucharest previously hosted the Europa League final on 9 May 2012, when Atletico Madrid won the trophy after a 3-0 victory over fellow Spanish side Athletic Bilbao.
