The radio play "The Guilty", by Ilinca Stihi, inspired by the killing of a teenager in Timis County by two friends, will premiere on Radio Romania Cultural on World Theatre Day, 27 March, at 18:00.
The cast includes Katia Pascariu, Mirela Popescu, Olimpia Malai, Voicu Hetel, Cristina Bordeanu, Andrei Ostrowski, Teodor Stefanescu, Dragos Uretyan, Traian Olteanu, Madalin Cristescu and Horia Cristescu.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, the radio production will be preceded by a public discussion titled "The Dimension of Reality in Art", broadcast live from 17:00 on Radio Romania Cultural and streamed online on the National Radio Theatre's Facebook page.
The discussion, hosted by Carturesti Verona Bookshop, aims to highlight the unseen effects of interactions in the virtual environment. Guests include actors Katia Pascariu, Olimpia Malai and Andrei Ostrowski, playwright and director Ilinca Stihi, alongside lecturer Dr Andrei Moran-Nae, a researcher specialising in ludology, cultural studies and narratology, journalist and associate professor Maria Toghina of the Faculty of Communication and Public Relations at SNSPA Bucharest, and forensic specialist Aura Preda. The event will be moderated by theatre critic Oana Cristea Grigorescu.
"The Guilty" is based on a murder case in the village of Cenei, Timis County. The news of a 15-year-old boy brutally killed by two friends, also minors aged 13 and 15, shocked Romanian society, triggering a wave of strong reactions on social media and sparking heated debates in the media and justice sector on the limits of the law, social safety, responsibility and discernment. Within this discourse of intense emotions, author Ilinca Stihi positions herself as an observer of parallel worlds brought to the surface by the youths' extreme act, according to the play's presentation.
The play will also be broadcast the same day at 22:00 on all Radio Romania regional stations (Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi, Resita, Timisoara and Targu Mures) and online on www.eteatru.ro.
