Protesters in Bucharest, nationwide take to the streets to demand resignation of gov't, PSD's Liviu Dragnea

Protesters who on Tuesday evening took to the streets in Bucharest and nationwide demanded the resignation of the government headed by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), major at rule, and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea.

More than a hundred people protested on Tuesday evening in Victoriei Square, and they were joined by national leader of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban and several PNL MPs, including Raluca Turcan, Mara Mares, and Robert Sighiartau.

The protesters waved Romania's national flag and shouted: "Demisia" (Resignation); " PSD - ciuma rosie" (PSD, the Red Plague); "PSD - de maine nu mai e" (PSD - will be gone tomorrow)." They also carried a banner with the message: "We fight till the end for Romania".

Orban said he urged PNL supporters to peacefully support the censure motion on Wednesday, by being present in Izvor Park, close to the Parliament House, and to send "an alarm message to the parliamentarians of the majority hanging on to Dragnea."

In Sibiu, more than 2,000 protesters marched more than 12 kilometers through the city, demanding the resignation of the government and Liviu Dragnea.

They travelled to the historic centre, the main boulevards, passing through the front of President Klaus Iohannis' home.

Most of the anti-government protesters, PNL members from all over the county and mayors, were carrying flags.

The anti-government protest will continue on Wednesday evening in Sibiu, organisers say.

In Cluj-Napoca, more than 100 people protested Tuesday in the city centre against the government, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Dancila and the PSD national leader Liviu Dragnea.

The protesters gathered around 19:00 in Unirii Square in Cluj-Napoca, where several days previously tents were mounted to host people on a "permanent protest". Those who wanted to send their messages spoke through a megaphone, with the crowd chanting from time to time anti-governmental slogans such as: ""Nu vrem sa fim condusi de hoti" (We do not want to be ruled by thieves).

The protesters blew vuvuzelas, made noise, wearing the Romanian national tricolour flags and banners reading messages asking for the government's resignation.

Contrary to the daily habit of the demonstrations that have taken place this month, the people did not start marching the streets of the city, but stayed in the centre until around 21:00.

In Iasi, about 50 people protested in the centre of the city, demanding the resignation of the government and Dragnea. At the same time, the protesters also rallied against amendments to the criminal codes in Parliament.
