Romania "fully" supports Ukraine's, but also the Republic of Moldova's and Georgia's accession to the European Union, President Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday.
"Romania fully supports the accession of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia to the European Union. The place of these EU partners is in the European family, and Romania will do its utmost to make this a reality," Iohannis wrote on Twitter.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday that he had signed a formal application for his country's accession to the European Union.
He called on the EU to allow Ukraine's immediate accession through a special procedure.
The presidents of eight Central and Eastern European states on Monday called on EU member states to immediately grant Ukraine the status of a candidate country and open accession talks, Reuters reported.
"We, the Presidents of the EU Member States: the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Poland, the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Slovenia, strongly believe that Ukraine deserves an immediate EU accession," it is shown in an open public letter on Monday.
