President Dan sends condolences to the Spanish people and King Felipe over train crash

President Nicusor Dan on Monday sent his condolences to the Spanish people and King Felipe for the victims of the tragic train accident that occurred on Sunday evening in Spain.

"I was deeply saddened by the tragic train crash that took so many lives in Spain. I wish all those injured a full recovery. My thoughts and prayers go to the families of the victims and their loved ones in these difficult times. I convey my sincere condolences to His Majesty the King and the people of Spain," Nicusor Dan wrote on the X platform, agerpres reports.

An Iryo train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed on Sunday shortly after 7.30 pm and entered the tracks on which an Alvia train was traveling at 200 kilometres per hour in the opposite direction, heading towards Huelva. A total of 484 passengers were affected, traveling on both trains. The cause of the derailment is currently unknown. The death toll has reached 39, according to sources close to the investigation who spoke to EFE news agency on Monday. A total of 73 people are still hospitalised, 24 of them in serious condition, including four minors.
