President Nicusor Dan informed on Friday that he has promulgated the law on magistrates' pensions, following the publication in the Official Journal of the Constitutional Court's decision.
'I promulgated this morning the law on magistrates' pensions, following the publication in the Official Journal of the Constitutional Court's decision. Recalibrating the way these pensions are calculated is an act of fairness, long awaited by our society. Citizens' trust in the state is regained when the reforms expected by society become reality,' Nicusor Dan wrote on Facebook.
The head of state also conveyed to magistrates that their work is respected and that their importance within the architecture of the state is fully acknowledged.
'I will support the legislative and administrative measures requested by the professional body to optimise the conditions in which they carry out their activity,' Nicusor Dan added.
On Thursday, the Constitutional Court of Romania published the reasoning behind its February 18 decision establishing that the new draft law proposed by the Bolojan Government on reforming magistrates' pensions is constitutional.
The new draft law modifying magistrates' pensions adopted by the Government provides for the gradual increase of the retirement age to 65, and stipulates that the pension amount may not exceed 70% of the net salary received in the final month of service.
