In the current situation, a new strategic concept of NATO is needed, Poland's President Andrzej Duda said on Tuesday in a joint press statement with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace in Bucharest, Agerpres reports.
"Taking into account what happened in Ukraine, an unprecedented aggression of the Russian Federation against this sovereign country, taking into account the advancing occupation, taking into account the crisis related to it, the security crisis for us, as well as for entire Europe, we might say for the entire world, we need a new concept of NATO. (...) In the first place, NATO's new strategic concept, which is being drawn up now, must take these changes into account, which have naturally been generated by Russia's aggression against Ukraine and this must be taken into account in the future," the Polish President said, according to the official translation.
He spoke of a profile shift in the NATO presence, from Enhanced Forward Presence or Tailored Forward Presence to Defense Forward Presence, namely a permanent defensive presence of the North Atlantic Alliance.
