PM Ciuca: In 1919, Oradea entrusted its fate to Romania, becoming one of most flourishing cities

Northwestern Oradea is celebrating 103 years since "it entrusted its fate to Romania," and it is presently one of the most flourishing cities in the country, stated, on Wednesday, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, in a speech held at the ceremony celebrating the day of April 20, 1919, when Romanian troops entered the city.

"I am honored to be today together with you, at the celebration of a crossroads event in the history of the city and, at the same time, in the history loaded with so much emotion, both at the time, as well as now. 103 years ago, on April 20, on Easter Sunday, the troops of the Romanian Army entered Oradea, to defend the population and free it from tyranny, in the acclamation of Romanians, Hungarians and all the nationalities expecting them here," said the Prime Minister in the speech.

The Prime Minister recalled that Oradea "went under the protection of the Kingdom of Romania with a peaceful change of power and without replacing the representatives of the old administration."

"In the name of liberty, democracy and peace, multiethnic and multicultural Oradea entrusted its fate to Romania, and presently it is one of the most flourishing cities in the country and I am using this opportunity to once again thank the city's mayors in the past years. (...) Today, the administration and army are meeting once more, symbolically, in Oradea, to recall the emotional day of April 20, 1919, when the civilian and military power, beyond any appurtenance, joined for the good of the community. It is the best moment to recall, with respect and admiration, the names of personalities that distinguished themselves then through altruism, attachment to values and vision: Aurel Lazar, Rimler Karoly, Janossy Gyula, Coriolan Pop, Iustin Ardelean, Roman Ciorogariu and, of course, Traian Mosoiu," said the Prime Minister.

"I hope in all this period, in which we are going through several crises, the citizens of the city of Oradea, together with the local authorities, continue what they started, develop better and more what they took over and, through solidarity, empathy, generosity and willingness for effort be able to accomplish what they desire since many years ago," said the Prime Minister of Romania.
