Liberal leader Florin Citu on Tuesday evening stated that those who now want PNL (National Liberal Party) to have a congress are the "enemies" of the party, and they "are not inside the PNL."
"Do you know who wants a congress held at the PNL? The enemies of the PNL, and they are not inside the PNL. I tell you that there are no enemies of the PNL in the PNL even today. And let me tell you that some of the party branches voted against this compromise, this coalition with the PSD (Social Democratic Party). But when it came to being in the government and having prefects and secretaries of state, all the branches came with requests (...) There is one more thing that I kept noticing (...). Those who are dissatisfied now are the same ones who were dissatisfied in 2004, and in 2012, and in 2016. About the same ones who don't even have the courage to enter a competition," Citu specified, at Digi 24.
Asked how he commented on the fact that there were dissatisfactions from some PNL branches regarding the number of offices obtained, he replied: "In this negotiation with PSD, PNL had 17 prefects by algorithm. I left the negotiation with 18 prefects. So it's clear, regardless of what anyone else can say, that this was a success, to have one prefect more. But considering how they are divided between them of course that you cannot have 18 prefects and please 48 branches. Some of these branches are going to be less pleased. (...)"
Regarding the three names circulated as possible successors to the party leadership: Ilie Bolojan - Bihor, Iulian Dumitrescu - Prahova, Dan Motreanu - Giurgiu, Citu said that these are people with experience, who have proved real Liberal qualities, and if they want to run they can do it at the next congress of the party, in 2025.
