Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan says it is "a matter of national responsibility" for Romania to support the Republic of Moldova with an energy source.
He stressed on Wednesday that the aid granted to Romanians across the Prut River does not represent "amounts that would create problems for us", agerpres reports.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister pointed out that the energy delivered to the Republic of Moldova is sold at the same prices as in Romania.
"In Moldova we sell energy, but it is sold at the same prices as in Romania. Supporting the Republic of Moldova with an energy source, given the conditions in which we know what the problems are, seems to me to be a matter of national responsibility. These sums are not creating problems for us," the head of the Government said on Digi 24 TV station.
The statements were made in the context in which the Romanian opposition claimed that taxes and duties were increased in order to financially support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
"It is the most simplistic line of attack and such arguments do not stand up, because our deficits are generated by too high expenditures on pensions, salaries, and an oversized public apparatus. They are generated by too low revenues on the exceptional components that we have made and on over-contracting of investments that cannot be financed from what we have today at the pace that it should be. These are the cumulative causes of our deficit. It is certainly a fake", added Bolojan.
