Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Wednesday that the interim staff report released by the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary is not about Romania, but about the freedom of expression, stressing that Romania fully respects this fundamental value.

"Frankly, this is not a report about Romania; it is a report about the freedom of expression, where Romania is also mentioned. We understand and respect the concerns of the U.S. Congress committees regarding freedom of expression, and as a country we uphold this fundamental value and have no disagreements on this matter," Bolojan said at a press conference at the Victoria Palace, when asked about the report.

He added that the decisions taken at the time regarding the annulment of the presidential election were made by the Constitutional Court, in accordance with the legal provisions governing the conduct of elections.

Asked whether the legitimacy of President Nicusor Dan is affected, Bolojan replied: "The legitimacy of President Nicusor Dan is given by the millions of Romanians who voted for him in last year's election."

The European Commission firmly rejected on Tuesday allegations that it pressured social-media platforms into "censorship", as claimed in the report presented by allies of President Donald Trump in the U.S. Congress, AFP reports.

The 160-page document, drafted by supporters of the White House leader, accuses the European Union of conducting a "decade-long pressure campaign" to control what is said online on a global scale.

The accusations are "absurd and completely unfounded", said EU digital affairs spokesman Thomas Regnier.

In the report, dubbed the "European Censorship Files", the U.S. Congress accuses the EU of pressuring online platforms to suppress posts critical of COVID-19 vaccines and claims that Brussels repeatedly engaged in electoral interference with European elections.
