Important weeks are ahead that will show to what extent we function or not in this coalition, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Monday.

He answered when asked if, at this moment, he is confident that the current governing coalition can provide the results for which it was created and if he is satisfied with the dynamics of the relationship.

"I think we could have a much better dynamic, because, first of all, it would benefit Romania and, secondly, it would benefit each of us. (...) We will test the results and the minimum consistency in the coming period. It's about a few weeks, because we'll see, we have to come up with the budget, we have to find some rational formulas for this budget, we're going to come up with the administration package, we're going to come up with the fiscal recovery package and the final form of these packages, the way we put them into practice, the consistency to support them, the approaches in relation to the local administration, and with all the problems that arise will give a very clear signal if this coalition can move forward," Bolojan told Digi 24 private broadcaster on Monday evening,

He added that he wants to keep the current coalition because it would be beneficial for Romania.

"Political stability is a good thing for Romania at this juncture, but that does not mean that there is some stability in which nothing happens; that does not help us at all. It is a stability in which even if we have divergent opinions, even if we have approaches that are different. The governing agenda is what has made us; it is our contract that comes to solve Romania's problems and the serious approach to the problems leads us in a good direction. Important weeks are coming that will show to what extent we are functioning or not."

Bolojan was also asked about recent statements of the social-democratic mayor of Buzau, Constantin Toma, and he said that the Social Democratic party (PSD) is playing a dangerous game, and the game of PSD national leader Sorin Grindeanu and the leadership in Bucharest are moving things towards and alliance between PSD and the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR).

"It's a perspective of Mayor Toma. What can I tell you is what I have said before: when tensions in a coalition exceed a limit of normality, when attacks destroy, let's say, trust and action is no longer convergent, it is difficult to assume that this coalition still has, how to put it, the strength to carry things forward. I hope that we don't end up in that situation. I want us to have stability, because frequent changes of governments, frequent changes of ministers do not bring a plus either to the country or to the areas of responsibility of these ministers. And it would be good, as far as possible, to have a minimum stability, so that there is predictability for the measures that are taken," Bolojan said.
