Romania has officially lost 231 million euros, non-refundable European money, due to a new trick of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ÎCCJ), the Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragos Pîslaru, wrote on Wednesday in a new post on Facebook.

"The fifth consecutive postponement at the CCR. Romania has officially lost 231 million euros, non-refundable European money, due to a new trick of the CCR. Romania is the only country in the world where you get a special pension, a CCR judge's salary and you also go on paternity leave. Despite all the efforts of the Government and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, today they won, those who fled the hearings for fear of losing their privileges. It is a black day for all those who want a fair and uncorrupted justice. It is a black day for all those who want a modern and European Romania," Pislaru pointed out.

The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) may decide, at the thirteenth hour, whether or not Romania bids farewell, definitively, to 231 million euros, non-refundable money with which we could have financed schools, hospitals or highways, the Minister of Investments and European Projects had previously written, before the CCR meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, on the amendments regarding special pensions.

According to him, with 231 million euros, 2,000 new ambulances can be purchased, 100 schools can be built or 50 kilometers of highway can be inaugurated....

Romania has until February 11, 2026 to meet the milestone in the PNRR regarding special pensions, otherwise it risks losing the amount of 231 million euros.

The Constitutional Court of Romania has again postponed, for February 18, the notification of the High Court of Cassation and Justice regarding the new project of the Bologna Government regarding the reform of magistrates' pensions, CCR officials stated to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

Sources from the CCR stated to AGERPRES that the postponement was decided in order to analyze the request received from the Supreme Court to refer the matter to the Court of Justice of the European Union with a preliminary question regarding the Government's project to modify the special pensions of magistrates.

The Supreme Court considers that the measures in the Government's draft "may lead to discriminatory treatment of magistrates in relation to other categories of service pension beneficiaries".

This is the fifth time that the constitutional judges have postponed the decision in this case.
