Over 8,400 tourist structures with boarding facilities, end of July 2018

The number of tourist structures with lodgings was 8,449 units, at the end of July 2018, 544 more than the same period of 2017, according to the centralized data of the National Institute of Statistics (INS). 

Of which, 2,821 were boarding houses, 1,709 were agro-tourism guesthouses, 1,633 hotels, 695 tourist villas, 533 bungalows, 318 hostels, 231 tourist cabins and motels and 278 other types of tourist boarding structures. Larger increases were recorded as opposed to 31 of July 2017 for boarding houses (265 more), bungalows (99 more) and tourist pensions (43 more). 

Of the total capacity of hotels, 43.3 percent of them were replaced by 3 star hotels, 23.9 percent in 2 star hotels, 26.8 percent in 4 star hotels, 4.2 percent in 5 star hotels, 1.8 percent in one star hotels and 0.08 percent in the unranked star hotels. 

Most hotels (over 70 percent) were placed in the 3 star category (52.1 percent of total hotels) and 2 star hotels (20.6 percent). There was a total of 36 five star hotels, and 367 four star hotels (37 more than 31 July 2017). 

At the end of July 2018 there were 102 unranked tourism structures with boarding facilities, as opposed to 113 at the same date of last year. The most part of them were school camping trips, with students and preschoolers. (51 percent of the total of 2018, similar to 2017). 

From the tourism structures with tourist accommodations, 28.1 percent were in the mountain area, 18.3 percent were in Bucharest, 9.1 percent in the seaside area (exclusively for the city of Constanta), 7 percent in spas and 3.4 percent in the Danube Delta (including the city of Tulcea), and 34.1 percent were in other towns and tourist routes. 

The first six counties, ranked by the total number of existing tourist accommodations were: Brasov (961), Constanta (834), Suceava (460), Harghita (434), Mures (362) and Prahova (345). The county of Constanta held the largest weight (24 percent) in the total number of existing rooms in tourism structures (exclusively for rooms in huts). 

The number of existing tourist places at 31 July 2018 was 353,300. Most of them, 196,700, were in hotels, followed by boarding houses with 48,600 places, tourist pensions with 35,800 places, tourism villas with 16,600, hostels, with 14,200 places. 

From the operating mode of the tourism structures with boarding accommodations, 77.7 percent of the total rooms were in permanent tourist structures. Rooms with bathrooms or showers represented 96.6 percent of the total rooms (exclusively for rooms in huts). For student and preschool camps, 57.3 percent of the rooms were without bathrooms or shower.
