"Long Day's Journey Into Night", a production of the 'Radu Stanca' National Theatre in Sibiu, is the first Romanian theatre show to be presented in U.S. cinemas, in a version filmed especially for cinema release, starting Sunday, January 11, a release informs.
"The 'Radu Stanca' National Theatre in Sibiu announces the U.S. cinema premiere of Eugene O'Neill's 'Long Day's Journey Into Night' directed by Timofey Kulyabin, in a version filmed especially for cinema release. This is the first time a Romanian theatre production will be screened in U.S. cinemas. The project is the result of a partnership between the 'Radu Stanca' National Theatre in Sibiu and Art Seen Films, an international company specializing in the cinema distribution of prestigious theatre productions," the release states.
The show will have its U.S. theatrical premiere on January 11 at Symphony Space in New York City, followed by screenings in other U.S. theaters in January and February.
"The show is part of the 'Artists in Exile' series initiated by Art Seen Films, dedicated to Russian artists who left Russia in 2022 and are currently creating outside the country's borders, including director Timofey Kulyabin and playwright Roman Dozhanskiy. In their new staging of the play 'Long Day's Journey to Night', director Timofey Kulyabin and playwright Roman Dozhanskiy place the Tyrone family in a solitary room of a luxury hotel - a flexible space where time seems suspended. The famous writer Edmund Tyrone confronts the ghosts of his past and the burden of his own celebrity, in a night that stretches into endless regret. Deprived of domestic comfort, Eugene O'Neill's family drama unfolds as an intense study of addiction, desire and impossible love, in which four souls seek connection among the ruins of memory," the release adds.
The show is presented in Romanian, with English, Russian or or bilingual subtitles, depending on the location.
