As many as 157 residents were evacuated on Tuesday evening from a social container block in Constanta's Henri Coanda district after a major fire swept through the entire building, the Constanta City Hall announced.

Nine people - including four minors - were taken to the County Emergency Hospital, while three others refused hospitalization.

According to the Constanta County Council, a 64-year-old man suffered burns on roughly 80% of his body, is intubated and in critical condition. A 58-year-old man sustained burns on about 6% of his body.

Six other patients, among them a woman with burns to her forearms, were treated for smoke inhalation and received oxygen therapy; three declined admission. Four minors aged 10 to 17, also suffering from smoke inhalation, were admitted to the hospital's Pediatrics Department for monitoring and specialized care.

Given the scale of the blaze, authorities activated the Red Intervention Plan.

More than 90 emergency response personnel were deployed to the site, along with 10 special vehicles from ISU Constanta, two from ISU Ialomita, two ladder trucks, a platform truck, an extrication crew, nine SMURD B2 ambulances, one SMURD C1 ambulance, three multiple-victim transport vehicles, five first-response and command vehicles, six B-type ambulances, and an emergency consultation unit from the County Ambulance Service.
