Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare met with World Bank representatives on Monday, to whom he informed that work is underway on a new budget platform to ensure more rigorous budget planning and better communication between ministries in drafting the 2026 budget.
"Today I had a substantial discussion with World Bank representatives - part of the constant dialogue we have within the partnership through which Romania collaborates with this institution to consolidate a more resilient economy. Today we focused on how we can move from an approach based on fiscal adjustments to a coherent strategy, focused on economic growth and social equity. I emphasized that the current fiscal measures represent necessary corrections, intended to balance the country's finances and bring them back on a sustainable trajectory. In the current context of major budget deficit, we need first and foremost to regulate systemic problems, in order to be able to build the basis for economic recovery," Nazare wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the main areas discussed were: growth and investment - ideas are being explored to stimulate growth, including by attracting foreign direct investment and increasing trade volume, with the Ministry of Finance working on complementary measures to those of this period, which would simplify bureaucracy for entrepreneurs and investors alike; structural reforms, discussing the efficiency of state-owned companies, improving the public procurement process and continuing essential investments, which would generate added value in the economy; strengthening institutional capacity, with representatives of the Ministry of Finance conveying to partners at the WB that work is being done on the new budget platform.
"We will continue discussions with the World Bank to develop a pragmatic strategy and concrete ideas through which to restore investor confidence and stimulate economic growth," the Minister of Finance pointed out.
