A total of 83,232 companies were deregistered nationwide in 2025, by 0.27% more than in the same period last year, according to statistics from the National Office of the Trade Register (ONRC).
The most deregistrations were recorded in Bucharest, namely 14,763 (a number increasing by 13.72% compared to 2024), and in the counties of Cluj (4,244, -1.07%), Constanta (3,354, +6.04%), Bihor (3,330, +18.76%), Ilfov (3,200, +21.77%) and Timis (3,169, -7.64%).
At the opposite end, the fewest deregistrations were recorded in the counties of Ialomita (532, down 4.66% compared to January - December 2024), Calarasi (569, -1.39%), Giurgiu (658, +10.22%), Covasna (667, minus 3.19%), Teleorman (670, +1.82%) and Caras-Severin (711, -2.20%).
Significant increases in the number of deregistrations were recorded in the counties of Ilfov (+21.77%), Bihor (+18.76%) and Sibiu (+17.88%), while the largest decreases were reported in Dambovita (-31.98%), Harghita (- 21.22%) and Botosani (-19.58%).
By activity area, the highest number of deregistrations was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, respectively 18,554 (-2.85%, compared to 2024), agriculture, forestry and fishing (7,596, -14.30%), professional scientific and technical activities (6,835, -6.13%), respectively transport and storage (6,782, -12.32%).
In December 2025, 8,426 company deregistrations were recorded, most in Bucharest (1,293) and in the counties of Cluj (473), Ilfov and Constanta (357 each), Iasi (323) and Timis (315).
