The National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin" marks National Culture Day and the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer Anatol Vieru with the official launch, on Thursday, of the "Merida - Ephemerides" video.

According to a press release sent on Wednesday to AGERPRES, the event will take place from 5:30 pm at Cinema City - Mega Mall Bucharest, in the presence of the Madrigal Choir, which will also give a short recital of Romanian music. The event will be attended by conductor Anna Ungureanu, director Emil Pantelimon and members of the production team, as well as other guests from the cultural and diplomatic spheres.

Filmed among the more than 2,000-year-old ruins of the Roman Theatre of Merida, one of Spain's most important UNESCO sites, and set to music by contemporary composer Anatol Vieru, the video is the fifth episode in the ensemble's multimedia programme, "Romanian Contemporary Music in Universal Ancient Spaces".

The video presents audiences with a jewel of Romanian contemporary music - "Ephemerides", a fragment from the innovative oratorio Clepsidra II for orchestra, choir, pan flute, and cimbalom, signed by Romanian composer Anatol Vieru (1926-1998), a major figure of 20th-century music and a close collaborator of the Madrigal Choir and its founder, maestro Marin Constantin.

Public access is free of charge, subject to availability, exclusively by online reservation.

On the same day, in collaboration with Metrorex, the new Madrigal video 'Merida - Ephemerides' will greet passengers passing through the Unirii 1 underground station between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm, being screened on a large-format display.

From 10:00 am, the video will also be released on Madrigal's online channels - the Madrigal website, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. The piece will also be available on all audio streaming platforms.

The production "Merida - Ephemerides" is part of the Madrigal Choir's multimedia programme "Romanian Contemporary Music in Universal Ancient Spaces", launched on 15 January 2024 on the occasion of National Culture Day. Other videos in the series include "Otrar - Games", filmed in Otrar (Kazakhstan) to music by composer Cornelia Tautu; "Pantheon - Festum Hibernum", filmed in Rome to music by Alexandru Pascanu; "Machu Picchu - Choral Suite from the Land of Oas", filmed at Machu Picchu to music by Dariu Pop; and "Sarmizegetusa Regia - Flames and Wheels", filmed at Sarmizegetusa Regia to music by Corneliu Cezar.

The video "Merida - Ephemerides" was filmed in November 2025 during the "Madrigal in Spain" tour organised by the National Chamber Choir Madrigal - Marin Constantin and the Ministry of Culture, with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with the Romanian Embassy to the Kingdom of Spain, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid, the Romanian Consulate General in Seville, the Romanian Consulate General in Madrid, and the Consortium of the Monumental City of Merida.
