The Minister of Culture, Andras Istvan Demeter, on Tuesday voiced his dissatisfaction with the national budget allocated to culture, and also with the manner in which funds are distributed, on the occasion of his participation in the Eminescu Days event, in Botosani.

He said that for 35 years "culture has been left with its hand out", while "picking up the crumbs from the table".

"Culture has been left with its hand out for 35 years. It is possible that it was the same under socialism, because even then culture was not among th best financed fields. And that is a problem. Culture should not just stand there with its hand out, picking up the crumbs from the table. Culture must have its share of the national economy. However, for this happen, we need to see what the proper share would be and how we can calculate it. It is not impossible to see. We must get out of our bubble, from the ghetto in which we find ourselves as public institutions, in which everything revolves as if in a closed sky, and put the entire contribution of culture on the table of the national economy and from there there is only one step: from this total contribution a share should return to culture," stated Andras Istvan Demeter.

The Minister of Culture participated, on the occasion of the Eminescu Days, in a round table on the theme "Cultural Education in the 2024. Cultural Consumption Barometer", which took place at the Ipotesti Memorial, as well as in a debate on cultural diplomacy.

Later, he attended the National Culture Awards Gala held at the "Mihai Eminescu" Theatre in Botosani.
