Romania's Embassy in Sofia is focusing on the case of the Romanian citizen detained Thursday night through Friday on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria and urgently undertook demarches with the local authorities seeking additional information, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) informs.
Moreover, a mobile consular team with the Embassy went to the locality where the Romanian citizen is to provide assistance. Following the demarches undertook by the mobile consular team, the Bulgarian authorities informed that the Romanian citizen was held in custody for checks, as he was in an area under this country's authorities' supervision. After the checks were carried out, the Romanian citizen was released, MAE specifies.
The representatives of the diplomatic mission gave him consular assistance in relation with the local authorities, by ensuring translation, included, MAE further shows.
According to the cited source, Romania's Embassy in Sofia is further monitoring the situation, keeping in touch with the Bulgarian authorities.
Rise Project Romania released, Thursday through Friday night, on its Facebook official page, the information according to which journalist Attila Biro and a Bulgarian colleague were held by the police. The two were near Pernik locality, "where the targets of an investigation were trying to burn documents related to a fraud with European funds," Rise Project Romania further specifies.
