The League of Agricultural Producers' Associations of Romania (LAPAR) requested, on Friday, the recognition of agriculture as a strategic sector of national interest, the substantiation of public decisions on economic and social impact studies and the initiation of a structured institutional dialogue between the Government and the professional organizations representing farmers.
"We must look at 2026 with responsibility, but also with determination. We need coherent policies, legislative stability, predictable financing and a national vision that puts agriculture at the center of Romania's development," the organization said in a statement sent to AGERPRES.
According to the cited source, LAPAR continues to support: fair treatment of Romanian farmers within European policies; recognition of the strategic role of agriculture in the economy and food security; investments in production, processing and storage, to add value in Romania; real dialogue with authorities, based on data, impact studies and applicable solutions.
"At the beginning of the year, Romania's agriculture remains, as always, the backbone of the national economy and social stability, despite a difficult context, marked by economic pressures, climate change, geopolitical instability and European policies often insufficiently adapted to the realities on the ground. 2025 was one of resistance and responsibility. Romanian farmers continued to produce food for the population, maintain the economic life of the Romanian village and support the food security of Romania and the European Union, even when costs increased and predictability decreased," the statement added.
LAPAR considers that agriculture is not just an economic sector, but "is a national strategic asset, an expression of the sovereignty, work and continuity of this country".
