The National Bank of Romania (BNR) will carry out a statistical research into the financing and consumption of Romanian households jointly with the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the central bank announced on Tuesday.
The research has been carried out since 2010, every three years, under the coordination of the European Central Bank, and its purpose is to collect data on the financial situation, income and consumption of households.
"The best possible understanding of financial behaviour, namely consumption, income, savings and the level of indebtedness, is important for substantiating monetary policy decisions and identifying risks to financial stability," according to BNR.
Data collection will starts in April this year.
The sample of the statistical research, made available by the INS, is made up of approximately 12,300 households, selected from 1,309 localities, from all counties. The collected data will be used exclusively for statistical purposes, being treated confidentially, in accordance with the legal provisions in force.
The processing of personal data is carried out in compliance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (GDPR).
The field implementation of the statistical research will be done with the support of the representatives of the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy (IRES).
Interview operators will go to the sampled households and will provide support for understanding the questions in the questionnaire developed by BNR and for filling it in.
