Higher incomes, job creation and ending the war in Ukraine top Romanians' expectations for 2026, according to the Informat.ro - INSCOP Research Barometer, 7th edition, conducted between 12 and 15 January.
Asked what they would most like to see achieved in 2026, 15.6% of respondents mention higher incomes, 15.6% point to job creation and 15% to ending the war in Ukraine.
Other priorities indicated are stabilising prices and reducing inflation (14.7%), combating corruption (14.5%) and improving the healthcare system (10.3%). In addition, 7.7% of respondents mention improving the education system, 1.6% increasing safety and public order and 0.7% protecting the environment and combating climate change. A total of 4.2% of those interviewed do not know or did not answer.
According to the sociological research, higher incomes are mentioned particularly by Alliance for Romanians' Union (AUR) voters, people with primary education and residents of small urban areas. Job creation is indicated mainly by AUR voters, young people under 30, people with primary education, as well as residents of small urban areas and rural areas.
Ending the war in Ukraine is chosen to a greater extent than the population average by Social Democratic Party (PSD) and National Liberal Party (PNL) voters, as well as by people aged over 60. Combating corruption is indicated as a priority for 2026 especially by PNL and Save Romania Union (USR) voters, people with higher education and residents of Bucharest and large cities, the same survey shows.
The data were collected between 12 and 15 January 2026, using a questionnaire-based interview method. Data were gathered using the Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing CATI method. The simple, stratified sample consisted of 1,100 people, representative of significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, occupation) for Romania's non-institutionalised population aged 18 and over. The maximum admitted margin of error is ą3%, at a confidence level of 95%.
