Firefighters managed approximately 5,000 emergency situations nationwide on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, of which 3,846 missions carried out by the Mobile Emergency Service for Reanimation and Extrication (SMURD) teams, who provided first aid and intervened in 17 cases that involved the extraction of victims trapped in damaged vehicles following road accidents.
"In addition to first aid and rescue missions, our colleagues worked to locate and extinguish 180 fires that broke out in various areas of the country. Through these efforts, rescuers managed to limit the spread of flames to neighbouring areas and prevent further emergency situations," according to the Press Office of the the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU).
Moreover, this weekend, the firefighters intervened to protect communities and their assets, while operational teams handled over 850 situations involving the rescue of people or animals from life-threatening environments, CBRN-related incidents and other emergencies.
"Furthermore, in this period, thanks to the optimal response provided by our colleagues within the missions, 29 people in critical situations were saved," the quoted source stated.
The IGSU recommends citizens to have a preventive behavior that can save lives and assets.
