Ambassador of Germany in Bucharest Cord Meier-Klodt stated on Tuesday that unity in diversity "is one of the most beautiful distinctive features of modern Romania," which would deserve to be celebrated in the Centennial Year.
"I believe that unity in diversity is one of the most beautiful distinctive features of modern Romania. I believe that it deserves to be celebrated in the context of this special year - the Centennial Year," Cord Meier-Klodt stated at an event organised in Bucharest on the occasion of the German Unity Day.
In the German Ambassador's view, it's worth celebrating the fact that modern Romania has successfully passed through an entire century of huge and catastrophic challenges "as a unitary, multiethnic, multilingual and multi-religious country." "Actually, a small early Europe, including a significant German component," Cord Meier-Klodt stated.
Furthermore, Germany's Ambassador in Bucharest told the guests of the event, including President Klaus Iohannis who was also in attendance, that he is very grateful for celebrating the unity achieved by the German people.
"I am very grateful that we can celebrate today unity, the unity achieved by the German people (...) on 3 October 1990, just one year after the falling of the Berlin Wall. In fact, a unity in diversity reflects the profoundly federal and diverse nature of my country. 'Unity in diversity' is also the fundamental motto at European level, an objective for whose consolidation we are struggling day by day together with our partners, in a world that became increasingly more complex and difficult," Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt stated.
