Romania's usable natural gas production accounted for 6,843 million tonnes of oil equivalent in the first 11 months of 2025, by 68,600 toe less than the quantity recorded in the same period last year (minus 1%), according to data centralised by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
On the other hand, natural gas imports increased by 70.9% (plus 1.2 million toe) in the reference interval, compared to the first 11 months of 2024, up to almost 2.88 million toe, agerpres reports.
According to estimates by the National Strategy and Forecasting Commission (CNSP), natural gas production is expected to increase, until 2027, at an average annual rate of 1.7%. Thus, in the latest Energy Balance Forecast, a natural gas production of 7.79 million toe (plus 1.5%) was estimated for 2025, 7.907 million toe (plus 1.5%) were estimated for 2026 and 8.176 million toe (plus 3.4%) were estimated for 2027.
As for imports, a downward trend is expected, with a more pronounced pace around 2027 (minus 6%), in line with the advance in production, through the entry into operation of new capacities, but also taking into account the maintenance of transit to foreign markets.
CNSP estimated, for 2025, natural gas imports of 2.211 million toe (-7.6%), for 2026 of 2.150 million toe (-2.7%) and for 2027 of 2.022 million toe (-6%).
