The panoramic lift at the Galati Botanical Garden has been installed and will carry visitors to the highest observation point inside the Palmarium, located at a height of 20 metres, Galati County Council President Costel Fotea announced on Monday.

'The lift that will take visitors to the highest observation point inside the Palmarium, located at a height of 20 metres, from where the crowns of the palm trees can be admired in all their splendour, has been delivered and installed at the site of the tropical greenhouse in the Botanical Garden. At the same time, work has begun on arranging the beds where tropical plants will be acclimatised and preparations are under way for the structure of the future glass floor, which will allow the exhibits to be observed in the finest detail,' Costel Fotea said in a press statement.

With a total area of 2,500 square metres, the tropical greenhouse will host hundreds of species of exotic plants from Africa and South America and will include educational and exhibition spaces, a panoramic lift and a terrace with a viewing platform, from where visitors will be able to take in the entire city.

According to the president of the Galati County Council, the old complex will be transformed 'into the most beautiful and modern exotic plant greenhouse in the country, a genuine tropical forest,' with areas also to be arranged for temporary exhibitions and educational activities.

The project is part of the programme to modernise and expand the Botanical Garden within the 'Rasvan Angheluta' Natural Sciences Museum Complex in Galati and is being carried out with funding provided by the Galati County Council.
