A country's territory cannot be transferred to another state except through the will of that people, Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu said on Wednesday.

Oana Toiu is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, from where she conveyed, through a video message posted on her Facebook page, that Romania has "one of the most substantial government delegations.", agerpres reports.

According to her, the goal of the delegation is to show world leaders and business leaders alike "Romania's role as a reliable partner in the region, as an investment destination, but also as a lucid voice in a period of uncertainty."

The foreign minister reiterated that Romania's interest is for NATO to remain strong and for the transatlantic partnership "not to be shaken."

"It is absolutely clear that there are principles from which none of us can deviate: a country's territory, especially that of a European country, but a country's territory, cannot be transferred to another except through the will of that people. And this is the only option. For all other matters, we continue the diplomatic dialogue so that we can jointly find formats within NATO to respond to legitimate security requirements in the Arctic area, as well as to continue to create possible response options and instruments, so as to deter future actions which could lead to a global conflict in terms of an accelerated increase in tariffs. Once new tariffs or higher tariffs appear, this has an effect on both economies, both the European economy and that of the United States of America. We hope, over these days and together with the business community, to find de-escalation solutions," Romania's head of diplomacy said.

She said that the changes taking place "are neither temporary nor reversible."

"We must stand alongside our international partners as a clear voice, a voice that supports multilateralism, while at the same time accepting that reforms are needed so that the results of multilateralism are faster, clearer and regain the trust of countries. We are an important partner for the United States of America and we continue to invest in the transatlantic relationship and in the strategic partnership with them," Oana Toiu mentioned.
