An exhibition tracing the beginnings of Ukrainian diplomacy opened on Monday at the Faculty of Law in Bucharest, as part of events marking and analysing the centennial of Romania-Ukraine diplomatic ties.
The exhibition of archival documents called "Ukrainian diplomacy 1917-1924, the birth of national traditions" was presented by Iryna Matiash - head of the Scientific Society for the History of Diplomacy and International Affairs. She said the company she runs has members in 13 countries.
"We have a practical proposal. In Bulgaria, we have set up a joint committee of historians active in that matter, and it is possible that at the end of today's event we will also get a similar commission with Romanian historians," Matiash said.
Attending the event, Oleksandr Bankov, ambassador of Ukraine in Bucharest, presented extensively the themes of the roundtable conference hosted by the Faculty of Law.
"We will not only stop at the historical perspective. Of course, it is very interesting to review what we have had in the centennial of Romania symbolically, to have such an event and to have the historical perspective of the diplomatic ties between the two countries. These relationships are more than 100 years old, and what I mean is the relations between the Ukrainian people and the Romanian people, and I think that this perspective will be analysed today. But what is more important: we will discuss the prospects for these relations, their current state and the prospects for this relationship of good neighborliness, friendship in the modern world, and also in the region that poses many challenges," the Ukrainian diplomat pointed out.
