Pianist Francesco Tristano, an innovative composer who bridges the worlds of Bach and techno, baroque and minimalist electronic music, will perform Wednesday evening at 10:00 PM at Club Control as part of the George Enescu International Festival, informs the event website.
Presented under the new Enescu in Control series, the concert will feature a repertoire from the project "Bach & Beyond", a fascinating journey through music history where Frescobaldi and Bach coexist alongside original compositions, electronic improvisations, and unexpected reinterpretations.
The audience will hear baroque masterpieces such as Frescobaldi's Toccata No. 4 and excerpts from Bach's French and English suites, alongside works composed by Tristano himself Electric Mirror, Neon City, and Insomnia. Ingenious transcriptions will include the famous techno track Strings of Life by Derrick May, adapted for piano, and Ryuichi Sakamoto's Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, transformed by Tristano into a personal and intense experience.
Throughout the festival, every Wednesday at 10:00 PM, Club Control hosts concerts in the Enescu in Control series, where international artists and top Romanian ensembles offer a different kind of musical experience: free, experimental, and in dialogue with jazz, electronic music, and contemporary percussion.
"We felt it was time to bring classical music to a space where genre-crossing can create bridges and revelations. The Enescu in Control concert series is an invitation for young people, as well as anyone curious to see how classical music can be reinvented and how it can engage with the rhythms of today. The Enescu Festival thus connects with the city's energy and the new generations," said maestro Cristian Macelaru, artistic director of the Enescu Festival.
The series debuted on August 27 with the Janoska Ensemble at Club Control, an ensemble known for its distinctive style that blends classical virtuosity with improvisation and playfulness.
In the third week, on September 10, the Radio Romania Big Band, conducted by Simona Strungaru, will perform, featuring special guests Italian saxophonist Stefano Di Battista and Romanian trumpeter Sebastian Burneci. The final concert of the series, on September 17, will focus on percussion instruments, presented by the Bucharest Percussion Ensemble.
The 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival runs until September 21, marking 70 years since the death of the great Romanian composer and musician George Enescu. This year's theme is "Celebrations", with over 100 concerts featuring more than 4,000 artists from 28 countries, highlighting both Enescu's artistic legacy and his profound impact on classical music worldwide.
Organized by ARTEXIM under the High Patronage of the President of Romania and funded by the Romanian Government through the Ministry of Culture, the George Enescu International Festival is a national cultural brand and a significant project of cultural diplomacy.
