A number of 11,250 homes are still without electricity in the counties of Alba, Maramures, Salaj, Prahova and Cluj, due to extremely difficult weather conditions, with many expected to be reconnected by the end of this week, but new accidents and disconnections will be possible, given the forecast announced by meteorologists, declared on Thursday, the Minister of Energy, Bogdan, at the end of the meeting of the National Energy Command.
"During this period, there were 5,288 crew interventions, a total of 341 teams mobilized in the field, 911 specialists. Also, 45 generators, six snow removal equipment, cranes, special vehicles, vehicles, drones and even a snowmobile were used, because a large part of the interventions were made in areas with a very high degree of difficulty of access, (...) At the moment we are talking about approximately 12,000 homes that are not connected. Work is being done on the ground to connect these homes as well. The main problem is also given by access, by roads that have not been unblocked. "Due to the better conditions yesterday (Wednesday, ed.), teams have already started working directly there to connect the 12,000 homes. At the moment, we estimate that by the end of the week we will have as many of them connected as possible, but we must take into account the fact that we already have four bad weather warnings, orange codes, yellow codes, in most of the country, which could automatically cause new accidents and new disconnections from the network, an additional pressure. What is very important, I think, is that we are prepared with a thousand people, specialists, in the field," explained the Minister of Energy.
He added that the authorities are prepared to deal with the expected situation this weekend and at the beginning of next week and are working to secure, from storage, the gas necessary for increasing consumption.
"We are prepared to deal with the situation this weekend, when meteorologists are also announcing showers in most of the country, on the one hand, and on the other hand, for the situation in which, starting next week, we will have negative temperatures, the minimums will be between minus 10 and minus 15 degrees, with a decrease compared to the same period last year by approximately 1.3 degrees Celsius, which will cause an increase in natural gas consumption at the national level by approximately 20%, up to 57-58 million cubic meters/day. In this context, we are working directly to ensure natural gas from storage. Romania has approximately 70% of its storages filled, well above the European average, which now stands at 58%. We started this process back in the summer, together with market operators and the gas transmission operator. Transgaz natural gas. "I thank everyone for the fact that, since July, they have been open to ensure that we have enough gas purchased at good prices since the summer, and now we are in a situation where we can use it to the fullest. We are making sure and have mobilized all operators (...) to ensure that during this period there will be enough gas in Romanians' homes, in public institutions, to cope with the peak next week, which will normally last approximately 3 days, until Wednesday, according to the meteorologists' forecast," Ivan specified.
The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, ordered the convening of the National Energy Command, on Thursday morning, at the headquarters of the National Energy Dispatcher, considering the evolution of weather conditions during this period.
