The Brasov Philharmonic and Opera, along with other public cultural institutions in Brasov, have scheduled Romanian music programmes for Thursday, 15 January, to mark National Culture Day, featuring works by the great composer as well as verses by the national poet.
"On Thursday, 15 January, the very birthday of national poet Mihai Eminescu (15 January 1850), we invite you to an evening built entirely around Romanian compositions, paying tribute to our cultural heritage. Under the baton of maestro Cristian Orosanu, the Brasov Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the Transylvanian Suite by Pascal Bentoiu and Suite No. 1 for Orchestra by George Enescu, two emblematic works that highlight the depth and identity of Romanian music," the Brasov Philharmonic announced.
The Brasov Opera has also prepared a foyer recital for Thursday evening, performed by the institution's soloists and accompanied by pianist Valentin Vasilache. The programme includes, among others, works by George Enescu, Gheorghe Dima, Sabin Pautza and Eugen Doga, set to verses by Eminescu and Veronica Micle.
At the Apollonia Cultural Centre, which operates under the Brasov City Hall, the special guest on Thursday will be actor Petru Calinescu, who will sing and interpret Eminescu's letters. The programme will also include a choral recital featuring pupils from two Brasov secondary schools - the Emil Racovita National College and the Music High School.
Last but not least, at the Reduta Cultural Centre, under the Brasov County Council, the public is invited to attend the event "An Evening with George Enescu", a complex cultural project dedicated to the great Romanian composer, focusing on his artistic and moral role during the First World War.
The event will feature the documentary film "The Music of War Wounds", the exhibition "Enescu during the Great War", organised by the George Enescu National Museum, and a chamber recital performed by violinist Sabin Laviniu Penea and pianist Alexandra Amariei.
