European Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, Vice President of the European Commission in charge with the Energy Union is due to visit on Monday the campus of the University Politehnica of Bucharest upon the invitation of the university's rector, Mihnea Costoiu.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, the visit is part of a project titled "Transforming UPB into a Smart Campus" and will include, alongside the visitation of the university's energy-efficient objectives and a Q&A session regarding the "Smart Micro Grid" pilot-system, present on campus.
The general theme of the visit to the UPB campus will be energy efficiency and will include, as objectives, the university's Passive House (an experimental project with no energy consumption) and the co-generation thermal power plant - a strategic project of the university.
The Center for Advanced Research on New Materials, Products and Innovative Processes (CAMPUS) - a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, developed by the university on European funding.
"Energy efficiency is an important objective of our university, not just from the perspective of resource consumption but also as a message we are trying to convey to society regarding our impact. In the last decade, our efforts have been directed towards trying to use innovative technological or experimental solutions to improve the day to day lives of Romanians. The following stage will be to transform our campus in an energy smart hub. The project's implementation is underway. In that sense, we appreciate the visit of European Commissioner Maros Sefcovic's visit as confirmation of the efforts made by our university's community," rector Mihnea Costoiu stated as quoted in the release.
