Carmaker Dacia sold 537,095 vehicles in 2021, up 3.1% from 2020, and in Europe it reached a market share of 6.2% in terms of sales to private customers, becoming for the first time the third best-selling brand in that category, according to a Dacia press statement released on Monday.
Apart from Romania, Dacia is the best-selling brand to private customers in France and is in the top 5 rankings in nine other European countries (Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Croatia), while in Germany it is in the top 10 rankings. Dacia is also a market leader in Morocco, with its performance being supported by the success of the Sandero and Duster models.
Thus, out of the total number of units sold in 2021, Dacia Sandero made up 226,805 units, of which almost 90% were the third generation of the model. In 2021, for the fifth year in a row, Sandero was the best-selling model in Europe to individual customers, and in some countries it was even the best-selling model to all categories of customers. Given the developments, the model ended 2021 on the second place in the ranking of the best-selling models in Europe.
At the same time, a similar trend was recorded for Dacia Duster, which has been the best-selling SUV in Europe to private customers since 2018. With 186,001 units sold in 2021 in all markets, the Duster has surpassed two million items since its launch in 2010.
On the green segment, the Spring model launched last spring was sold in 27,876 units and over 46,000 business orders were reported for it at the end of 2021. Dacia management says that 80% of those who bought a Spring vehicle were not customers of the Dacia brand prior to their purchases.
In Romania, Dacia sold 38,120 vehicles in 2021, inlcduing 13,482 Logans; 9,045 Dusters; 8,227 Sanderos, and 3,068 Springs.
In terms of 2022 prospects, the Jogger will join the models in the Dacia range, a new family vehicle with up to seven seats designed to meet the demands for comfort, space and modularity of a wide range of customers.
Founded in 1966, Dacia is the most important car manufacturer in Romania and the most important exporter, with a significant contribution to the country's Gross Domestic Product and a structuring effect on the national economy through an extensive network of suppliers.
A Renault Group brand since 1999, Dacia is operating in 44 countries on four continents, offering robust, reliable vehicles adjusted for the needs and lifestyles of a wide range of customers.
Dacia sales advance 3.1pct internationally in 2021; market share reaches 6.2pct in Europe
