The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) reported on Tuesday that the criteria for significant community transmission of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the national level have been met, Agerpres reports.
According to INSP, in the week of January 3-9, 203 cases with the Omicron variant were confirmed.
As of January 9, 295 Omicron cases have been confirmed: 28.1% (83 cases) have a travel history to the UK (32), Italy (11), South Africa (8), Tanzania (6), Nigeria (5), Spain (4), USA (3), Austria (2), Bulgaria (2), UAE (2), France (2), Belgium (1), Cyprus (1), Mexico (1), The Netherlands (1), Portugal (1), DR Congo (1).
Moreover, 9.2% (27 cases) are in 18 family outbreaks, totaling 58 cases of COVID-19. The outbreaks were detected in Bucharest (10) and the counties of Cluj (2), Iasi (2), Arges (1), Brasov (1), Calarasi (1), Prahova (1). Of the outbreaks, 11 reported a history of travel/contact with a person arriving from France (1), Spain (1), the United States (1), and the United Kingdom (8).
According to the INSP, 13 cases were epidemiologically related to a COVID-19 case; 135 cases have no epidemiological link mentioned, and 37 cases - could not be contacted.
Of the 295 confirmed cases with Omicron, 192 (65%) had been vaccinated, of which 191 (99%) had a complete vaccination schedule.
No deaths were reported in confirmed cases with Omicron, the INSP said.
