Senate President Mircea Abrudean on Friday called for responsibility, political maturity and the consolidation of Romania's Euro-Atlantic direction, stressing that fuelling divisions in society only serves to weaken the country.

"In a world marked by unprecedented instability - with wars in the neighbourhood, major geopolitical tensions and global economic pressures - Romania cannot afford political experiments, improvisation or artificial crises. Today, more than ever, we need stability, strong institutions and a predictable governing formula capable of providing security to citizens, the business environment and our international partners. In this complicated international context, political responsibility means a state that functions and does not stall, clear decisions, not permanent conflict; continuity in economic and security policies, and respect for Romania's commitments within the EU and NATO," Abrudean wrote on Facebook.

He underlined the need for a state capable of withstanding "external shocks", and "not weakened from within by short-term electoral calculations".

"Creating fractures in society and fuelling divisions only weaken Romania. Now is the time for responsibility, political maturity and strengthening the country's Euro-Atlantic direction," the Senate president said.
