The Romanian College of Physicians (CMR) on Friday welcomed the government's concern for defining a consistent and predictable regulatory framework that would establish the status of hospitals of strategic importance.

"We believe that, in order to achieve these objectives, it is necessary that, in addition to meeting the infrastructure and equipment criteria, a strategic approach regarding the medical human resource should also be considered," says Catalina Poiana, chair of the Romanian College of Physicians, according to a press statement, agerpres reports.

The College of Physicians emphasises that the definition of hospitals of strategic importance must necessarily be accompanied by consistent and sustainable policies for the development of human resources, especially of the healthcare professionals.

"The presence of well-trained, motivated and numerically sufficient doctors is the central element that confers, in the CMR's view, a strategic character to a healthcare unit, followed of course by adequate equipment and infrastructure.".

The CMR official also says that it is necessary to develop concrete measures regarding the recruitment, retention and continuous training of doctors, including by securing adequate working conditions, job stability and recognition of assumed responsibilities.

A draft government decision on the reclassification of hospitals has been put in decision-making transparency, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete announced on Thursday.
