The capital and 20 other counties will be under a Code Yellow warning of sleet and wind intensification throughout Thursday, according to the National Meteorological Administration.
Thus, between 10:00 and 23:00, in the south, center and east of Transylvania, in the north and center of Moldova, in the center and southeast of Wallachia and especially in the afternoon and evening locally in Dobrogea, as well as in the Southern and Eastern Carpathians, it will temporarily snow sleet and visibility will drop below 100 m. The wind will intensify, with speeds of 50...70 km/h, and at altitudes above 1700 m, gusts will exceed 70...85 km/h. A snow layer of generally 5...15 cm will be deposited.
Another Yellow Code for sleet and wind will come into effect on Thursday night, at 11:00 PM, and will be valid until Friday afternoon at 3:00 PM in the Southern Carpathians and most of the Eastern Carpathians, where wind speeds will reach 50...70 km/h, and at altitudes above 1700 m, gusts will exceed 70...85 km/h, blowing snow. Visibility will remain below 100 m.
Also, from Thursday night at 11:00 PM until Friday morning at 10:00 AM there will be a Yellow Wind Code in western and southern Oltenia, southern Muntenia and Dobrogea, as well as northern and eastern Moldavia. In these areas, the wind will intensify, with speeds of 50...70 km/h.
Meteorologists have also issued a Code Yellow frost warning, valid from Thursday evening from 8:00 PM until Friday morning at 10:00 AM in Banat, Crisana, Maramures, Transylvania and in the mountains, where minimum temperatures will generally be between -15 and -10 degrees.
