Bucharest General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu has been invited to join a new network that would include the main mayors in Europe.

The invitation came from the Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Mathieu Mori, who visited Bucharest this week.

According to the Bucharest City Hall (PMB), it is an association through which the mayors are to communicate, consult and have regular meetings.

"I think it's a very good idea and I'm willing to get actively involved in this organisation," Ciucu said in a social media post.

After the meeting with the mayor of Bucharest, Mori was welcomed by the mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close.

On Wednesday, Mori addressed the mayors at the General Assembly of the Association of Small Towns of Romania.

The strength of Europe relies on our municipalities and councils. By protecting the authorities, member states are not only protecting their own democracies, but strengthening democratic security across Europe, Mori wrote in a social media post.
