The border police from the Albita Border Crossing Point caught a British citizen carrying four gold bars with a total weight of 400 grams, which were hidden and undeclared.

According to a press release issued on Monday by the Iasi Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police (ITPF Iasi), the man was a passenger on a bus operating a regular service between Chisinau and Cluj.

"Under the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on coordinated control and based on an established risk profile, a thorough inspection of the vehicle and its passengers was carried out. During this joint inspection, the British citizen was found in possession of four gold bars, weighing 100 grams each, hidden and undeclared in an attempt to evade customs control. In accordance with legal provisions, the goods, with an estimated value of 278,000 lei, were seized for expert examination, and the man was issued a contravention fine of 20,000 lei," the ITPF Iasi statement reads.

The police continue their investigation and will take the necessary legal measures.
