The Government will present, by the end of March, a plan of measures aimed at lowering prices in the electricity sector, declared Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
"We have a plan that we discussed with the minister (Minister of Energy - ed.), which we will announce by the end of March, which aims to lower prices in the electricity sector. This decrease cannot be done overnight, but there are several important directions that we have discussed and that we will work on, so that we can have effects starting this year," Ilie Bolojan declared on Thursday at the Victoria Palace.
He specified that the measures aim, among other things, to "unblock network capacities".
"So, the abolition of those ATRs that have practically covered our entire connection capacity to the electricity networks and we must free up these networks to open the market for those who really want to invest and reduce costs," explained Bolojan.
"Then, there is a need to increase storage capacities," he added.
"And through the programs that the minister proposed on the Modernization Fund, to co-finance investments in this field, through all the measures that have been taken, increasing storage capacities will allow us to reduce a price that is very high during peak hours, so that, overall, we have cheaper energy," said Bolojan.
An important measure is to accelerate investments in the energy system. The Ministry of Energy has prepared a simplification package, the Prime Minister also stated....
"We are also working on a list of strategic objectives to pursue in order to shorten the implementation period of investments, which means network reinforcements, network expansions, investments in production, interconnections and so on. Because only by increasing production capacities can we, in real terms, reduce the price," Bolojan also stated.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the aspect related to improving the administration of state-owned companies in the field.
"NuclearElectrica and Hidroelectrica, combined, produce over 40% of our energy production. For example, Transelectrica, Complexul Oltenia and so on, each improvement in a company that is an important operator means better prices, greater efficiency. And last but not least, we must support high competitiveness on the energy market, so that when you have much better offers on the market, Romanian citizens know and can access the best offer to put pressure on this market, to have prices on the market, so that we also have much cheaper energy," Bolojan highlighted.
