1456 - Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler; Vlad Dracula) (1456-1462; 1476) enters Wallachia, defeats and kills Vladislav II. Start of Vlad Tepes' rule in Wallachia. His famous name stems from his patronymic - Draculea - meaning son of Dracul (the Dragon), as his father, ruler Vlad II Dracul was known, due to his membership in the Order of the Dragon
1785 - Promulgation of law to abolish serfdom in Transylvania through which the serfs were recognised their right to free movement
1890 - Death of Vasile Alecsandri, writer and politician, honorary member of the Romanian Academic Society (b. June 14, 1818; or July 21, 1821)
