The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) informed on Monday that the number of citizens with the right to vote recorded in the Electoral Register on January 31, 2026 is 19,035,825, by 3,622 fewer than on December 31, 2025, when, according to the data, 19,039,447 Romanian voters were registered.
According to a press release from the AEP, the differences arise as a result of the current operations carried out by mayors in the Electoral Register related to the administrative-territorial units.
Thus, during the period January 1 - 31, 2026, at the level of the mayoralties, the following deletions were operated in the Electoral Register:
* 24,399 persons were deleted as a result of death, according to the provisions of art. 37 of Law no. 208/2015 regarding the election of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, as well as for the organization and functioning of the Permanent Electoral Authority, with subsequent amendments and completions;
* 115 persons were deregistered as a result of falling within the provisions of art. 39 of the same law, regarding the deregistration from the Electoral Register of voters who were prohibited from exercising the right to vote or who were placed under interdiction.
A number of 64 persons regained their electoral rights as a result of the expiration of the deregistration period, the cited source specifies.
"The number of voters who turned 18 between January 1 and 31, 2026 is 20,828, being registered in the Electoral Register ex officio, by the Permanent Electoral Authority, based on the communication of the General Directorate for the Registration of Persons," the press release states.
The AEP mentions that of the total number of Romanian voters who appear in the Electoral Register, 17,982,003 have their domicile or residence in the country, and 1,053,822 have their domicile abroad and are holders of a CRDS passport.
