Actors from the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre in Bucharest (TNB) on Tuesday organise a protest in front of the theatre's headquarters against the pilot programme of the Ministry of Culture regarding the introduction of a time sheet in their activity.
Participating in the protest will also be the auxiliary staff at the theatre.
According to a press release, the pilot programme was brought to their attention through Directive No. 766/03.02.2026 - Instructions on the uniform organisation and recording of working time for operational staff in public performance or concert institutions. Both the actors and other employees in the technical and production departments of the Bucharest National Theatre are protesting against the fact that this directive turns unregulated creative work in the artistic field into office work and includes annexes requiring them to submit detailed written reports of their daily activities for each working hour.
'We believe this project kills creativity in culture and turns artists into writers of daily reports', while the artistic director or the manager becomes our reporter', on behalf of us all. An artist's work cannot be standardised into eight hours a day; it does not take place only on stage, but also within oneself - starting at dawn and ending at night - over ten months a year, six days a week, and a single hour on stage involves an emotional expenditure that is difficult to quantify,' the actors of the Bucharest National Theatre said, according to the press release.
