The 1 Decembrie 1918 University of Alba Iulia has been included in the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026, placing 99th among universities in Eastern Europe and in the 701-900 band at European level.

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, the university was listed in the 2026 edition of the international QS World University Rankings: Europe, published by the British organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the world's leading assessors of higher education performance.

"In the 2026 edition, the 1 Decembrie 1918 University of Alba Iulia is ranked in the 701-900 range at European level, is among the top 100 universities in Eastern Europe, placing 99th, and ranks 16th nationally among the 21 Romanian universities included in the ranking. These results are significant given the high competitiveness of the ranking and the limited number of Romanian universities assessed in QS Europe," the source said.

QS Europe 2026 brings together 958 universities from more than 40 countries and is based on a complex set of indicators measuring academic reputation, internationalisation, research activity, institutional collaborations, attractiveness to international students and graduate employment outcomes.

"We are proud of this international recognition, which confirms the rapid growth of UAB's academic profile and our commitment to educational excellence and high-quality research. In a small city, we manage to remain vigilant and competitive at the highest European level, which motivates us to continue investing in the quality of education we provide," the university's leadership said.

Founded in 1991 with a single Faculty of Humanities and a Technical and Economic College, the public university in Alba Iulia now comprises five faculties: History, Letters and Education Sciences; Economics; Computer Science and Engineering; Law and Social Sciences; and Orthodox Theology.
