"Violence in schools, bullying, drug trafficking and other criminal behaviours represent one of the greatest challenges of contemporary reality in Romania. Over 93 percent of children in rural areas experienced at least one instance of bullying at school during the previous academic year, while 43 percent of parents and 29 percent of children stated that no measures were taken after reporting the aggression, according to the World Vision Romania Foundation report 'Child Well-being in Rural Areas'," the release underscored.
In addition, more than half of pupils have been insulted or verbally abused at school or nearby, according to the study "School Safety 2024," conducted by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Romanian Police.
During 2025, 35,000 children, 9,000 parents, 5,000 teachers and 1,000 experts were informed and trained on combating violence against children in schools through 32 projects worth 825,000 euros, funded under the "School Anti-Violence Ecosystem" programme, co-financed by the European Union and managed by the World Vision Romania. The projects were implemented in 158 schools, especially in disadvantaged areas across 34 counties and Bucharest.
Under the "School Anti-Violence Ecosystem" programme, the World Vision Romania will launch a further 13 projects worth 130,000 euros. These projects, selected in November 2025, will start on 1 February and run for six months, reaching more than 13,000 beneficiaries (7,800 pupils, 3,900 parents, 1,040 teachers and 260 experts).
