The Delta Force robotics team of the National Computer Science High School in Arad has qualified for the FIRST Robotics Competition World Championship, which will take place in Houston, United States, from April 29 to May 2.

According to a press release issued by Delta Force on Wednesday, 'this marks a national first, as it is the first team from Romania to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition division.'

The competition is meant for the elite in this field, with Arad representing Romania against highly technologically advanced countries such as the United States, China and Japan.

'The team from Arad has achieved the remarkable performance of breaking new ground even in this league of giants, where large, industrial-type robots compete, demonstrating that cutting-edge engineering can be learned with passion even on the school benches. This qualification confirms the team's excellence, which in 2022 made history by becoming the first team outside the United States to win the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship title,' the press release reads.

Participation in Houston places the National Computer Science High School in Arad on the global map of school robotics, the same source notes.

The team's mentor, Octavian Dragos Botosan, is quoted in the press release as saying that this result is 'a confirmation of the countless hours spent in the robotics lab to find the best and most competitive version of a robot with which to achieve performance.'

'It has been a difficult journey; we turned the impossible into reality, all with the involvement and support of the community,' the Delta Force mentor added.
