"Annually, on October 15, World Sight Day is celebrated or the White Cane Safety Day, the reliable support of people without sight. In Romania there are 95,889 visually impaired people, of whom 2,770 are children. Since the ratification of the UN Convention for the Rights of People with Disabilities, Romania has assumed a process of reform which needs to fundamentally change the way in which the person with disability is perceived. It is a difficult process, which certainly is far from being concluded, but we want an inclusive society and we are constantly preoccupied to identify solutions that can come to the support of people with disabilities," Vasilescu showed, in the message sent to AGERPRES on Monday.
According to her, in 2018, the Government twice increased the value of the financial support for people with disabilities, on January 1 and July 1, and specifically, for visually impaired people, in the new pension Law the level of contribution was decreased, as opposed to the one established by law for the beneficiaries of the public pension system.
"We are aware that there are still many things to do in order to make life easier for the visually impaired people in Romania, but we can assure you that we are constantly involved in identifying new solutions that will come to your assistance," the Labor Minister added.
