A Venice Commission delegation will be in Romania over June 11 - 12 for an exchange of views on the bills amending the Law on judicial organization, the Law on the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Law on the magistrates' statutes, informs a release on the website of the Council of Europe.
The delegation will meet with the President of Romania and various officials at the Ministry of Justice, the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the Constitutional Court, the Prosecutor General's Office, the National Anticorruption Directorate, the Superior Council of Magistrates, and with Parliament representatives, including the Select Committee on the amendment of the judiciary package, with judge and prosecutor associations, and civil society organizations.
Both the President of Romania and the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe sought the opinion on the three bills of the Venice Commission, an advisory body of the Council of Europe made of independent experts in constitutional law, the release said.
